Import Rival Driver Profile - RedDragonImport Rival: How did you get involved in import modification?RedDragon: It all started in high school with a 1984 VW Rabbit GTI. Back in 1986 there was no import scene. I always wanted a car to fix up and totally customize. Back then parts were slim. I remember I upsized my rims from 13" to 15" and that (back then) was huge! Import Rival: What personal reasons do you have for doing this? RedDragon: It allows me to express my creativity and create something no one else has. Import Rival: Why did you choose THIS vehicle to modify? RedDragon: It was a convertible, and had a lot of aftermarket parts available - I like a lot of choices. Import Rival: How did you get involved in competitions/shows? RedDragon: My wife said "Your car is so nice, we should take it to a car show." Import Rival: How did you get involved in racing? RedDragon: Goes hand and hand with car shows. Import Rival: Is this the first vehicle that you have modified? RedDragon: Nope started with a 1984 VW Rabbit and grew from there. Import Rival: Is this the first vehicle that you have raced? RedDragon: YES. Import Rival: Who is/are your current car clubs/teams/speed shop? RedDragon: BR Performance rules the planet. Part of the High Country Car Club, Triad Miata Club, and Import Rival. Import Rival: Who are your current sponsors? RedDragon: No One. Import Rival: What is your advice for those who want to get started in import modification or competing? RedDragon: Patience. My car took almost 7 years. Know the final plan and work toward it. If you always change your mind, you will spending double money. Remember - some people will love your car - others will hate it, just make yourself happy. Import Rival: What is your advice for those who want to get started in racing? RedDragon: Things are going to break, be ready! Import Rival: Is this vehicle your daily driver? RedDragon: No, its not. Import Rival: If so, how often do you get undue attention from law enforcement? RedDragon: The local law loves to rubber neck me. Import Rival: What was your biggest mistake when you began modifying your vehicle? RedDragon: Having no money. Import Rival: What do you think makes your vehicle special? RedDragon: It's the only one like it. Import Rival: Any other comments or shout-outs? RedDragon: Shout out to BR Performance. Import Rival: What are your future modifications? RedDragon: Twin monitor setup, forward looking night vision, some other little extras. Import Rival: What awards/recognition have you received? RedDragon: I've won a bunch of trophies, Best Mazda, Best Engine, etc. The best part is walking around the show and meeting the other drivers. Import Rival: Include additional information you would like for others to know about you. RedDragon: Good luck with you car!
