Vehicle Computers for Imports

It is fascinating to think of how computers are such an important part of our cars. They work silently and tirelessly in the background. We are hardly even aware of how much they are in control...

This article is a basic introduction to the use of computers in your vehicle. The computer monitors engine emissions and adjust the engine to keep emissions low. Information is received from many different sensors, some of which include:

* The air pressure sensor

* The air temperature sensor

* The engine temperature sensor

* The knock sensor

* The O2 Sensor

* The throttle position sensor

The information from these sensors are used to control things like the fuel injectors, spark plugs, and the idle speed to get the best performance from the engine. The computer can detect when something has gone wrong and will inform you with the 'Check Engine' light. If you take it to your mechanic, he can read a diagnostic code from the computer. This will let him know what the problem is.

In cars that are more expensive, there are an even more computers controlling things. For instance:

* Automatic transmissions

* A computer is reads the wheel speed and controls the brakes (if you have anti-lock brakes)

* Air bag systems

* Keyless entry and security systems

* Personalized climate control systems (which allow you to set your own heat or cool preferences)

* Motorized, heated, seats and mirrors (which allow you to set your own preferences)

* Radio or CD player with a digital display

* Cruise control systems

So the next time you get into your car, give thanks to your small, discrete, dedicated warriors!
